Même à manipuler la Cour suprême du Mississippi. Le plan qu il imagine alors est à la mesure des difficultés. Son instrument est Ron Fisk. Sympathique, séduisant mais naïf, ce gentil père de famille accepte le financement de sa candidature au poste de juge en échange d un vote favorable dans l affaire Krane Chemical. Ce n est que dans le cours du procès en appel qu il comprend la portée de sa compromission... Trop tard.
Jamais encore John Grisham n avait mis tant d habileté à décrire le côté sombre de l âme humaine. Il ne cache pas l ambivalence et les faiblesses du héros, mais plus que jamais, il va jusqu au bout de sa démonstration, implacable, quitte à faire triompher le mal et les puissances corrompues de l argent. Un monde terrifiant, et pourtant si réaliste... Un thriller juridique qui a la dureté d un diamant noir.
